Frequently Asked Questions
What to Expect
What happens after I start working with Strata?
Once you become a client, we begin with a deep-dive planning session covering your goals, benefits, comp structure, investments, and tax picture. From there we build a personalized plan across the areas that matter most — retirement projections, tax strategy, employer benefits coordination, and investment management. Planning continues with quarterly check-ins and ad-hoc support around life events, open enrollment, and major financial decisions.
Where will my money be held? Do I still own the accounts?
Yes. Your assets are held at an independent third-party custodian — we never take possession of your money. You retain full ownership and online access at all times. Strata Capital has discretionary authority to manage your accounts based on your plan, but we cannot withdraw funds for any purpose other than fees you’ve authorized.
How does transferring my accounts work?
We handle the paperwork. Most account transfers happen electronically through ACATS and complete within 5–10 business days. We coordinate directly with your existing institutions so you don’t have to manage the back-and-forth.
What are your fees and how do you charge?
Strata Capital charges a transparent advisory fee based on assets under management, with planning services included. Fees are deducted directly from your accounts on a quarterly basis. There are no commissions, no product sales, and no hidden costs. Specific fee schedules are reviewed in your intro call.
Will David or Carmine personally work with me?
Yes. Strata Capital is a boutique firm — David, Carmine, and our advisor team are personally involved in every client relationship. You’re not handed off to a junior associate after the sales pitch.
Do you specialize in MetLife employee benefits?
Yes — it’s our deepest specialty. We’ve guided over 400 MetLife employees and advised on more than $100M in MetLife employee wealth across 13+ years. Our team understands the full benefits stack: 401(k) and Aux Match Plan, Traditional Formula Pension, PRA, deferred compensation, RSUs, performance shares, and post-employment health coverage. (Strata Capital is not affiliated with or endorsed by MetLife.)
How do you coordinate with my CPA and estate attorney?
Tax and estate planning don’t happen in isolation. We coordinate directly with your CPA on tax strategy and projections, and with your attorney on estate documents and wealth transfer. If you don’t have a CPA or attorney, we can introduce you to professionals in our network.
Are you a fiduciary?
Yes. Advisory services are provided through Cornerstone Planning Group, LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser. We are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest at all times.
Do I have enough money to work with Strata?
Our typical client has investable assets of $1M or more, but we evaluate fit based on your full picture and trajectory — not just your account balance today. If you’re a corporate executive with significant unvested equity or a MetLife employee approaching retirement, we encourage you to reach out regardless.
